Our Mission

About seven years ago, the Alano Club of Battle Creek started a fundraising process that culminated in 2007 with the launching of a capital campaign to raise funds for the construction of a much-needed Community Recovery Center. Although we were successful in building the new center, we are still behind our final goal.  We invite you to participate in this crucial effort by contributing your time, talents and financial resources.

Why It Matters

According to the federal government, more than 24,000 people in Calhoun County are directly affected by alcoholism and drug abuse. That figure grows even higher when you add those that suffer quietly from other addictive behaviors.  Thousands more in our community – children, family members, neighbors, law enforcement officials and employers – share this heavy burden.

Although the Campaign raise enough funds to complete construction, we are still far off our final target.  We continue our efforts to raise these funds internally, but your efforts, time and talent as part of the community to pay off our remaining debt is crucial to ensuring recovery is available to ALL who need it and want it.

Benefits to the Community

Recovery from addiction is a lifelong process that requires active participation in a 12 Step or similar program. A new Community Recovery Center will provide a desperately need home to a wide range of volunteer-based recovery programs. These include Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Alanon / AlaTeen (for family members), Gamblers Anonymous and related efforts. Key benefits to the community include:

  • Outreach: With our new Community Recovery Center, we can provide more services for those in need, up to 10,000 additional people each year, including those in underserved populations.
  • Cost: The 12 Step recovery program is a highly cost-effective alternative to in-patient addiction programs. This new facility will be entirely self-sustaining.
  • Business: Recovery programs help employers prosper by reducing absenteeism and health-care costs while increasing productivity and quality.
  • Family: Helping family members of alcoholics and addicts is key to minimizing the negative affects of substance abuse, especially on children. Our new Community Recovery Center will help family members understand the disease and aid in the recovery process.
  • Early Intervention: By reaching teens with substance abuse issues, we can help prevent life-long addiction.
  • Crime: Reducing addiction directly lowers many types of crime, as well as serious auto accidents. Nearly 80% of all crimes in Calhoun County are related to drug or alcohol abuse in some way.
